A Life Care Plan is a comprehensive tool used to estimate lifetime medical and non-medical needs of a person with catastrophic injuries or chronic care needs.

A Life Care Plan is used in litigation to determine costs of damages to be awarded in settlement or trial.  They may be used for any case dealing with ongoing medical issues involving expenses.

A Life Care Plan prepared by a Nurse Life Care Planner includes:

• A personal visit by Marilyn King (nationwide) to assess the client in their home or facility

• A prepared assessment of the client's complete current and anticipated physical, psychological, mental, and social needs 

• Collaboration with treating physicians, specialists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, case managers, home health team, and family

• A detailed report describing the history and impact of the injury on the client, including reports by treating physicians

• Costs shown in table format for every item necessary for current and future care, with supporting rationale based on nursing diagnoses and the nursing process for:
